I bambini e lo sport

As we all know, sport is not only very important for adults but above all for children.
From a physical point of view, children can do any sport, but most importantly they must enjoy themselves. While some sports more than others develop specific skills, any sport stimulates the physical and psychological development of children.
Children can start playing some sports as early as 4 or 5 years of age because they have developed the skills to learn the sporting techniques, while in the case of other sports such as skating or athletics which require major physical development, it is better to start at about the age of 8 or 11.
When choosing a sport for your child the most important aspect to consider is that he or she “must enjoy that sport”.
Over and above what your child likes, his or her physical characteristics (for which the advice of a child specialist is recommended) and personality should be taken into account.

In addition to being a way of letting off steam, physical activity plays an important educational role; it has for example been demonstrated that team sports improve learning and socialisation skills. The same applies to individual sports when these include exhibitions or end-of-year performances.
A sense of fun and competitiveness are the most evident signs that your child is starting to enjoy a sport.
Above all competitiveness, which has a balancing and liberating effect, and a mentally releasing function, helps the psychological and emotional growth of the child. Sport and competitive events perhaps do not resolve all the individual needs and anxieties of a child but they do help to work on them facilitating social insertion.
When a child starts a new sport parents should always ensure this is a process of physical and psychological growth where competitiveness is controlled and encouraged because it is useful for his or her development, but not exasperated. It is also important to teach children how to lose and enjoy a sense of participation so that the child lives competition as a healthy and constructive experience.
Practising a sport regularly helps to ensure that your child’s body is fit and the healthy development of his her mind, personality and socialisation skills.
