Children will build “the world of tomorrow”.
For this reason I have always thought that one of a parent’s essential duties is to educate their children to respect the environment..

Safeguarding the ecosystem in which we live means learning to take care of yourself and the people you love and care for, so the planet is a more beautiful place to live. It is up to us adults, above all to set a good example, because children learn by observing us and copying our habits.
 

But how do we actually go about teaching our little ones to love the environment?

I’ve always believed that a very simple way to start is throughseparate waste collection and recycling.. Teach children to separate plastics, glass and paper so they will understand that there are types of material that are compostable and others which are biodegradable.

These are life lessons.

Just like not throwing paper or chewing gum on the ground and always look for a bin when out and about.

It is also very useful to teach them how to look after things through a small project about responsibility, such as caring for a plant.. To know when to sow a seed, how to water it, how much light it needs to grow.

Another important aspect is allowing our children toexperience nature. as much as possible. Understand the importance of breathing clean air and let them discover the wonders that our beautiful land offers us.

I have always taught Ascanio that it is importantnot to throw things away when we don’t like them anymore or they are no longer perfect, but rather to find “alternative solutions”. How we can take them to special places and share them with children less fortunate than him.

Establish simple habits. Always turn off the light when you leave a room, turn off the tap when you brush your teeth or use soap in the shower. This way they will learn that energy and water are precious resources not to be wasted.

Another very important aspect not to be underestimated is toprovide them with books, hopefully made from recycled paper, iwhere they can read stories about ecology and having respect for the environment.

Because nothing remains imprinted in a child’s mind, forms their emotional heritage and influences their social behaviour quite as much as reading stories. It is our job to raise our children with a “green” mentality without any ifs or buts.

A few small strategies and the rules will become habits, changing habits. The planet will become a better place to live.
